Remote Connection

Remote Connection

If users want to view their Xpanel runtime project on their computer, they can use the Virtual Network Computing (VNC) or Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) options. This mirrors the active HMI screen to the computer.

VNC

VNC will only be available on the eXT2 devices.

To use VNC, ensure VNC Server Setup is enabled in the Network Settings menu, and the HMI is connected to the computer via Ethernet or USB-C. Using Canvas, navigate to the Connection Setup window. Select the HMI by enabling the checkbox. On the right, click Start VNC Server. A notification will appear notifying that VNC has been started.

Click Launch VNC Viewer.

When using VNC for the first time on a device, an unknown certificate issuer window will appear; this is expected. Click "Yes" on both windows that appear to continue.

Once the login window appears, log in using the default username and password. The username is user and the password is passwd. Click OK and the HMI screen will appear.

The Weston VNC backend - TigerVNC application functions the same as the HMI screen. This means the user can exit the runtime using the long press or three-corner method. The changes made to the Xpanel settings through VNC will persist on the physical HMI.

RDP

RDP will only be available on the eXT07 - eXT15 or nXT07 devices.

RDP is unavailable on the eXT04.

To use RDP, ensure RDP Server Setup is enabled in the Network Settings menu, and the HMI is connected to the computer via Ethernet or USB mini-B. Using Canvas, navigate to the Connection Setup window. Select the HMI by enabling the checkbox. On the right, click Start VNC Server. A notification will appear notifying that RDP has been started.

Click Launch VNC Viewer.

When using RDP for the first time on a device, an unknown certificate issuer window will appear; this is expected. Click "Yes" on the window that appears to continue.
